Destination Europe Travel Testimonials

Hi Kayla,

Here is an overview of our trip:

The flight on Swiss Air was lovely, as the crew took exceptional care of us. Our driver was on time and genuinely hospitable when we arrived in Geneva. The Bristol Hotel was beautiful, and the staff was extremely attentive. The location was truly fantastic, and we had a view of Lake Geneva from our room. We were within walking distance of the world-class city's attractions and superb restaurants.

The rail trip from Geneva to Interlaken was by far our favorite part of the trip! We shared the bottle of Champagne you so graciously sent to us while enjoying the Swiss countryside in our First Class car.

Upon arriving at the Hotel du Nord in Interlaken, the hotel staff was unbelievably enthusiastic about making us comfortable ' it is apparent that they love taking care of their guests. The town of Interlaken was a bit sleepy, and it took longer to get to the ski slopes than we would have preferred. We spent one day simply sight-seeing in Murren, Wengen, and Grindelwald: We went ice-skating, watched curling, and ate fondue in a quaint Alpine ski village. We skied the next two days in Interlaken and were amazed at the beauty of the slopes.

We looked around for a New Year's party to attend and ended up joining a large group dinner at our hotel. We ended up being the youngest people there by a couple of decades, and the "entertainment" included in the package was a man with a keyboard. It was European eccentric, to say the least, but we had fun ' and purchased a couple of extra bottles of champagne and wine!

The train ride back to Geneva was just as pleasant as the first, and we enjoyed another day of sight-seeing and city attractions before our long but comfortable flight back to reality and the U.S.

Kayla, we enjoyed our trip very much and learned a few things we would do differently next time. Thank you again for all of your help!

Thank you for all of your assistance with my recent trip to Europe with my daughter. At the last minute, you arranged everything that I asked and came through for us. The London hotel accommodations were supurb and ideally located for the sightseeing we wanted to do. The tours in both London and Paris were fantastic. I will surely recommend you and your services to my family and friends.

Thanks again for all your help.

Hi Kayla,

Our trip to Italy was awesome. Thank you for the wine and champagne it was much appreciated. The hotels were very nice. The Venice hotel room was very comfortable and it had it's own sitting room. We were very pleased with the trip accommodations.

We are thinking of going to Greece next. We will give you a call as soon as we are ready to go.

I would like to thank Kayla for her professionalism during a very special time for my wife and me. I had decided to go to Italy for our Honeymoon. I had been to Italy in the past (for business) and realized I knew just enough to be dangerous. I first contacted Kayla because of her website and basically asked some simple questions. Kayla's quick response won me over. It was a decision that I would not regret - working with Kayla proved to be easy and I was not a very easy person to work with.

I had initially asked for suites at five star accommodations throughout our stay of eleven days (we went to Venice "4", Tuscany "3" and Rome "4"). As we changed our minds and amount of days to spend and locations for accommodation Kayla stayed focused and always provided several options. Kayla helped us come up with a travel plan that fit our dreams perfectly. She even ended up helping us save some money. She was able to indicate to us that depending on where we would be staying where we would really see value for the five star accommodations verses four star. We ended up with five star accommodations in Venice (Hotel Londra). This hotel was magnificent with a breath taking view of the Grand Canal. In Tuscany we ended up in a small private Villa outside of Cortona (Under the Tuscan Sun and The English Patient). The food was amazing and the wine was out of this world. From there we moved on to Florence, I would suggest just a day trip here and this is where we spent the night prior to going to Rome. We saved a ton of money in Rome by simply changing from five to four stars "suite" accommodations (Hotel Quirinale).

Kayla proved to be a valuable tool during our stay as well. While in Florence we had a slight problem with the accommodations. I placed a call to Kayla while we (my wife and I) discussed it over lunch and when returned that evening we found that Kayla had called and discussed the issue with the hotel and when returned that evening everything had been resolved to our satisfaction, no questions asked.

I would also be negligent if I did not mention Kayla's shining moment. While we where leaving Venice, I forgot my camera and video camera in the private water taxi. I made a frantic call to Kayla while on the train between Venice and Florence. Kayla was not only able to track down the camera, but was able to have it shipped to our hotel in Rome - it was like an early wedding gift!

Thanks again for all of your help in planning our Honeymoon to Italy,

Thank you for all your help and hard work in making our trip to Italy and Lugano a reality! It was a wonderful trip, we had a wonderful time and we now have 482 digital pictures to sort through and use in a memory book. Everything was great, especially the hotel in Lugano. Thank you for your excellent recommendation! The hotel upgraded us to a suite, so we spent one day enjoying the weather and sights of Lugano, and the other enjoying the facilities in the hotel. And their restaurant is wonderful! A perfect end to an exciting trip!

We appreciate how hard you worked on our behalf, putting up with our changing requirements and reworking our itinerary time after time. All with a "smile". Customer service and satisfaction clearly are a priority for you. That is why we would certainly both work with you again and recommend you to our family and friends.

Best wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season.

Hi Kayla,

We had a fantastic! time. The villa was so beautiful. It went so far above my expectations. I would recommend this villa to any of your clients. Catia was just wonderful and so sweet. This will be a place that I know I will return to time and time again.

We had unbelievable meals and the scenery was to beautiful to describe. I'll send a picture or two when I get them.

Thanks for everything.

We had an incredible time on our European Honeymoon. Our route through Italy was amazing. We had smooth transitions from city to city and the train rides were short and comfortable. We were able to do and see everything that we wanted. We would highly recommend this trip and your services to anyone who wants to sample Italian beauty and culture. Paris was also delightful and a memorable way to end the trip. Thanks again for all of your help!

Kayla was a great help in fine tuning my trip to Italy. We went on a great wine tour and really enjoyed our tour guide. Also, she was able to secure our transfers and our rail tickets. We would use Kayla again - she was a great help and I enjoyed working with her.

Thank you so much for doing an outstanding job of getting us from Boston to Venice, to Paris, to the South of France, back to Paris, and home to Washington, DC! It was a long two weeks for our honeymoon, but very enjoyable thanks to your help with flights, trains, hotels, etc. Outside from our one mix-up at the airports in Venice, it was a terrific experience.

We are planning on going back to Italy next year for our 1st anniversary so you will be hearing from us real soon!

Thanks for everything!

Hi Kayla,

The trip was great! We had such a good time and we can't wait to go back. I really liked that we went to Rome first, then Florence, and then when we wanted to relax, to Venice. The hotel in Venice was perfect. It was right near the water and in the center of everything. Thank you very much for planning such a great trip. We will definitely contact you when we are ready to go to Europe again.

Hi Kayla,

All in all we had a fantastic trip. The Best Western Hotel Pasitea in Positano was very nice. We had two double rooms and a view of the Bay of Naples as stated in your itinerary. The full day private tour of the Amalfi Coast with private car was more than satisfactory.

Our stay at the Hotel Zadar in Croatia was WONDERFUL!!! We didn't want to leave. Keep this one high on your list!!

At Lake Bled the Jadran Garni Hotel was great and we had lake view rooms. Lake Bled is the most beautiful place we have ever been too!!

In Venice, The Hotel Residenza Goldoni was great. The location was fantastic and the hosts were hospitable and friendly. Good choice! When we left Venice, the private boat transfer went great. The representative stayed with us till we boarded the train. High marks!!

We had a hell of a great trip!!! Thanks for all of your assistance!!!

Hi Kayla,

Thanks for all your help we all had a wonderful trip. Things went off without any problems. We started off from JFK on Lufthansa. They were a great airline treating us all very well on our flight.

The Magdeburg Herrenkrug Park Hotel was the best of the lot. The grounds were amazing as well as the lobby and even the restaurant. We even met the band we went to see at the hotel. (Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night of Blackmore's Night) The town was quiet but the Dom in the city was great to see.

We then went to Berlin next and stayed at the Alsterhof. This hotel was ok but no comparison to Magdeburg. The rest of the time in Berlin was good - we went to the Zoo, Ka Da We, the walked though the city and went to some bars.

Hamburg was next. Hamburg was good time we went to some museums and churches and took a cruise around the harbor.

The ICE train to Frankfurt was fantastic the trains were great and fast. Frankfurt Hotel was great - location was close to the train station, the lobby and top floor pool were awesome. The Frankfurt tour was so much better than the Berlin one. It was in English, good stops and entertaining and informative guide. There was a rainbow around the Dom! The Rhine Cruise was good also as well. We used the third day of the Rail Pass to go to Cologne - that was great also.

Overall everything went great thanks for all your help!

Luckily we were not at the tube stations during the bombings. The loss of life was certainly very sad. We were at our hotel packing to leave for Cardiff. We had quite a time getting to the train station since there was no tube and no buses...taxis were very tied up. We had to walk to the train station. When we arrived, the train station was evacuated. We waited outside for 90 minutes until it reopened. Then we finally were able to get the train to Cardiff.

The Park Plaza in Cardiff was wonderful! It was one on the nicest hotels I have stayed in...lots of amenities and certainly spacious by European standards. I would highly recommend it. The trip overall was very nice...even though a bit stressful due to the bombings.

Thanks again for all of your wonderful assistance with the planning of our trip. Your patience in answering all my questions and your attention to detail were most appreciated! We enjoyed the trip, and made life-long memories!

Hi Kayla,

Our trip was great. We all enjoyed everything that we did. I can say that we definitely liked London better. The tube there is easy to use and people are polite and available to help. Loved the lion king, dinner in Soho - while we were there the gay rights folks were having a demonstration - so our view from the restaurant was quite interesting!!! Loved our tour to Bath and Stonehenge - it was the highlight of our trip to London... Shannon wanted to stay in Bath for a couple of days. The tour guide was fun and so knowledgeable and the driver had a great sense of humor. We thought the London eye was such a great intro to the city... that day we purchased the big red bus tickets, went to Westminster Abbey, took the river cruise and went to the Tower of London. We also went the London Dungeon (Shelby's idea). Very little shopping time is my only regret... Flying all night wore my girls out...they went straight to bed when we got to London and slept for about 5 hours, so our first day did not really start until around 5:00 pm that evening. The Eurostar train was excellent; the girls loved it, and had fun finding the cafe. Second class was great.

Paris was beautiful.... I loved the treasures that we were able to visit. We signed up for a guided Louvre tour (best idea for a short but effective first visit). We went to the top of the Eiffel Tower - and then took the stairs down from the second platform (Shelby's idea - she had this in mind from London when we did not have the time to climb the 600 plus stairs to the top of St. Paul's Cathedral)... took the on/off bus tour, saw Rodin's sculptures, went to the Notre Dame Cathedral. The tour there was a bit different - less fun, more rigid. We all loved the Loire Valley and the castles that were built on the river... we rented a row boat and had fun taking turns. The tour guide was quite remarkable translating in three languages.

I have tons of wonderful pictures and must say that we did have an educational and wonderful vacation. The London bombings were a close reminder of what our world is coming to.... so sad.

I think that I want to go to Italy next!!!

Thanks again Kayla,

Mr. K. Turek, San Diego, CA

Hi Kayla!

Where do I start? First of all, everything went super. All transfers were perfect (except one late in London due to traffic and one rude driver in Vienna, but so what...). No one got sick or lost or bored...The Warsaw pickups were the best: in two Mercedes with suited drivers. Poland as a whole was wonderful--the Warsaw Marriott is like a 5 star hotel--a great place to land and unwind in comfort. The Francuski in Krakow was also superb. Its location is perfect--close but still away from the action...nothing like sitting on the free internet in their lobby and hearing the horse hooves clattering on the cobble street from the tours going by...the dollar goes SO FAR there. Your divide everything by 3 so a 90 zwoty dinner for 4 (with drinks etc.) really costs $30!!! Krakow is really becoming more and more cosmopolitan with cafes and restaurants and shopping. My wife bought two pairs of Italian shoes for about $100 total...It was great and Krakow has definitely become one of my favorite cities.

Our drivers in Poland were so helpful to load us right on to our trains. They actually placed us right on to our seats! All trains were excellent by the way, especially the Eurostar to London. First class wines etc. --good living there. Aushwitz tour was sobering but interesting.

Vienna was nice but quiet due our weekend timing. We should have stayed in the Ring like you originally recommended but it was still OK. The pastries were great.

Paris was BUSY!!!! So much traffic and people. The Normandy tour was outstanding. Our driver was fun and very helpful (e.g. finding us a nice place for lunch and getting a written transcription for me from the Museum at Caen). He was definitely worth the extra money. Definitely. We surprised our boys with a lunch at the Jules Verne in the Eiffel Tower for Susan's birthday so it was very special...

London was cloudy and cool, a nice break from the heat and sun we ran into elsewhere. We saw a show (Stomp) and met some local friends so it was great too...but it is SO expensive--you have to double all prices... GULP!

Well, I'm off to finish unpacking and barbecue some hot dogs for the good ol USA. Thank you for your help on this very special trip. It turned out so well. We really appreciate your help on putting it all together. Thanks again!

Mrs. D. McLeod, Alberta, Calgary - Canada

Hi Kayla -

Thank you for your welcome back to the land of reality (and the Starbucks cards!). We had a fabulous time in Italy...; it feels like it went so fast, yet so much was packed into the time we were there. Many thanks to you for your detailed and excellent planning that made our trip go so smoothly. We certainly noticed how much went into it once we arrived and had car pick-ups, tours and rooms ready and waiting for us. Thanks! We appreciate the work you did on our behalf more than ever. We missed all the rain and flooding that went on in Calgary while we were gone. Our house was OK, but Roxanne and Cam had some flooding in their basement. It virtually rained non-stop since we left (very unusual in Calgary) and we had fantastic weather wherever we went ' bonus!!

I'll start at the beginning to give you a bit of feedback on how things went.

Rome - We liked the Grand Hermitage Hotel (thanks for the upgrade!) Taxis were reasonably priced, but the ability to walk to a few more things would have been great. The evening bus tour was very good - we had a delightful tour guide and a fun dinner. Thanks!

Sant Agnello - we loved it! The Majestic Palace was a terrific venue and we were within walking distance to Sorrento. We had a fabulous time and enjoyed our stay immensely. The hotel staff was delightful, helpful and made us feel very welcome.

Florence - The tour to Siena and San Gimignano was very good. We were able to get tickets for David, city tour etc. quite easily. We would highly recommend getting advance tickets for David etc (we asked the hotel when we arrived) as we just walked to the front of the line ' excellent!

Santa Margherita Ligure - We loved it! The Hotel Helios was a fabulous location and our rooms overlooking the sea could not have been better. The staff and hotel facilities were terrific. We loved every minute of our stay there. We took the ferry to Portofino and train to Cinque Terre etc. We had a wonderful time and would recommend the stay there to anyone.

All our train connections, hotel reservations and pick-up drivers were on time and great (except as mentioned above). I would highly recommend doing it this way again. It took a lot of worry out of our trip and allowed the time we had to be enjoyably spent on fun, shopping, dinners and sight seeing ' not searching for accommodations and connections.

We wish to thank you very much for all of your efforts and for orchestrating a memorable vacation for us all. We look forward to sewing up the loose ends on the tours and, down the road, working with you to plan our next European vacation. If you require an actual letter of recommendation, just let me know and we would be pleased to provide one - we were thrilled with all your planning, suggestions and excellent customer service.

Best regards,

Danna, Don, Roxanne and Cam

Mr. C. Uhlenberg, Alberta, Calgary - Canada

Kayla, has Danna has so eloquently indicated, the trip was absolutely great! I have always believed that experts should always be given tasks that they do best, in this case Kayla - arrange the trip & Danna, Don, Cam and Roxanne ' Enjoy the trip. (We found we were quite good at enjoying...;...;).

Thanks again for all your hard work!

Wow, what an amazing trip. You did a wonderful job of getting us all over Italy. I think four cities in ten days was a little crazy on our part, but we managed. Everything on your end was as smooth as peaches and it was a pleasure.

Thank you,

Our family just returned from an unforgettable vacation touring Italy with Destination Europe. Thank you so much for the flowers - it was incredibly sweet of you to send such a beautiful gift! Everything went smoothly in Praiano and the Amalfi Coast was just as beautiful as it was 20 years ago. The hotels were wonderful - especially in Praiano. Florence and Rome were speculator and we were so excited to be able to share our memories with our daughter for her first visit to Italy.

Travel plans were well organized and taken care of before we arrived so that almost all our time was spent leaping from museum to ruin to coastal town and shop! Our accommodations were chosen quite strategically making it all the much easier to get sucked into our 'kamikaze' tourist nature - making sure every rock in Italy gets our attention! From Florence to Sorento, Amalfi, and Rome, our holiday went without a hitch. All in all, Destination Europe ensured an awesome experience abroad and we are very thankful!

Thank you again very much - everything was wonderful!

Best regards,

We had the most incredible time. It was perfect. The flight on and transport to Como went fine. We were not prepared for the size and majesty of the lake and surrounding mountains. One day we took a trolley to the top of the local mountain, and we could see the Swiss Alps! The food, hospitality, and room at Hotel Argegno were nice. Tuscany was everything we thought it would be. Lorenzo at Hotel Pescille in San Gimignano was super. We could have wondered those streets for days. It was like walking back in time. The Amalfi coast was so pretty that anyone could be a postcard photographer. The room at Eden Roc was really nice, and they gave us a great deal on some wine that we brought back. The hotel in Rome was shut down because they had no water, but they had already arranged for us to stay at another hotel just around the corner at NO CHARGE. That was really nice.

In general, the food was fabulous in its simplicity and freshness. We can never be satisfied at Olive Garden any more. The wine was great. We never picked out bottles of wine, we just ordered the house wine. Everytime, their house wine was better than $50 bottles here in America. Once you get used to the routine, trains and busses really are the best way to get around. We ran into plenty of Americans we could visit with. One college girl from South Carolina prevented a pick-pocket from stealing my wallet in a Naples train.

We really appreciate all your help. I have already told several people that if they want to go to Italy, they need to talk with me first and I will refer them to "my travel girl".

Thanks a lot-

Mark and Katherine Alexander

Dear Kayla:

We had a wonderful time on our two tours, "Best of Greece" and "Wonders of Turkey". Thank you so much for your fine help in arranging our trip. Below are some thoughts we had about our trip and the things we were able to see.

TRANSPORTATION: Our flight schedule was very user friendly. As you know, we left on St. Patrick's Day and my wife wore her lucky Irish shirt. When we reached the gate at JFK the Delta employee said "this really is your lucky day" and then upgraded us to Business Elite Class with all the trimmings. We were able to enjoy the best food and comfortable seating as well as get some relaxing sleep from JFK to Athens.

Our other flights were in tourist class on full flights but we were comfortable and well served. On arrival in Athens, we were met and taken to the hotel as scheduled as we were in Istanbul. The only problem we encountered was in Athens upon departure. Trafalgar would not provide our transport to the airport. We had to get a taxi at a cost of 35 Euros.

HOTELS: Although all of our hotels were more than satisfactory, some were outstanding. The hotel in Istanbul, the Golden Tulip Eresin Topkapi, was especially delightful. Rooms in most hotels were a bit small by US standards but clean and very satisfactory. Baggage handling at the hotels upon arrival and departure was excellent. Hotel services were plentiful and easily available although not always inexpensive as you would expect.

COACH TOURING: On both tours our drivers were outstanding in skill, efficiency, and in attentiveness to our groups needs. They maintained the coach clean, comfortable, and safe while being very helpful and courteous to all of us. On the last couple of days in Turkey, we had a surprising snow storm. However, everyone had complete confidence in our driver that we would be safe and on time in our travels.

FOOD: The food was of very good variety and we had nothing but good experiences eating. The tomatoes in Greece were the best we have ever eaten. We especially loved the Greek salads with the goat cheese. The buffet breakfasts offered very good variety, quality and quantity. The included dinners were all very good. We really enjoyed the many lamb dishes that we had for lunch and dinner.

ENTERTAINMENT: The Greek dancers show in Athens was a great way to end our tour there. The food was very good and the show and dancing were excellent. In Turkey, the belly dancing show was outstanding along with good food and unlimited wine plus mixed drinks included. It was a really fine show.

SIGHTSEEING: The sightseeing pace was very active. There were so many things to see that we seemed to always be on the move. Although this was a bit hectic, it was not a problem for us because we had studied the schedule and knew what to expect. The tour companies might want to include information about the pace of the tour for future users. The sights we saw were wildly beyond our expectations, especially in Turkey. The tour was aptly named. It isn't possible to comment on all the really wonderful things we saw because they were so many, but Ephesus had to be the biggest surprise of all. It was truly wonderful and breathtakingly beautiful.

Another real delight was the Bosperous cruise. It allowed us to get a good perspective of the Asian and European side of the city. The homes there were really stunning.

We decided before the trip that we could take a lot of pictures but because of so many sights, we would probably not remember what the pictures were. We decided to take pictures and video but we also bought the souvenir picture books in all the really good places. They were very inexpensive and gave us the information to remember what we had seen and its history.

TOUR GUIDES: Our guides in both Greece and Turkey were both outstanding. They had good command of English and both very extremely knowledgeable about what we were seeing. They did everything possible to make our tours informative, entertaining, and comfortable.

TOUR MEMBERS: As on many tours we have taken, there was a good variety of people from different parts of the world. On both tours we had people form Scotland, England, New Zealand, Australia, Japan (residents but English speaking) and of course from the US. On the Turkish tour we had a couple originally from Peru. This mixture provided for a delightful group and very congenial tours. The affinity for people within the group was so nice.

DISAPPOINTMENT: The only really disappointment that mattered on either tour was that we didn't have a farewell dinner in Turkey. We understand this was because we arrived back in Istanbul so late but a bit disappointing. However, we made the best of it. A gentleman from New Zealand assembled us in the hotel lobby in Istanbul where we formed a circle, held hands, and sang two verses of Auld Aung Segn (can't spell it). People in the hotel lobby and restaurant were quite puzzled but it was a glorious moment that we shall never forget.

MISCELLANEOUS: We had been told that things in Turkey were very inexpensive. We did not find that to be the case. Beverages with alcohol were very expensive. A drink in the hotel bars was about $10 (US equivalent). We were taken shopping for carpets, pottery, and leather, all of which we found to be of good quality but very expensive. Dinner in our hotel in Istanbul would run about $90 for the two of us. However, the quality was very good.

SUMMARY: Both tours were outstanding and so enjoyable. Travel like this is an investment. You can't take money with you when you die but you do take your wonderful memories. We would highly recommend both tours to others and also the fine service you gave us. Thank you again for your wonderful help.
